House of Our Own Bookstore, an independent new and used book seller, was considering a move to this empty property on 40th Street. Holland Architects, Ltd. was asked to develop several schemes to study the feasibility of the move.

Several possiblities were explored, including an addition to the building's rear to cover the entire building lot. One configuration included a small cafe; others examined use of the upper floors for additional floor space. A new entryway with increased display window space was designed to take advantage of the building's side alleyway.

The study included total book storage space for each floor plan, and also advised on recommended upgrades and rehabilitation work.
