The Office of the General Counsel was consolidating
its offices to one location in the Art Deco-style Mellon Building,
just off the main campus. Initial renovation services included building
planning for HVAC so that other floors in the building could be renovated
to the same extent as the Counsel offices. Other services included
space planning, furniture planning, architectural design and documentation,
as well as construction administrative services.
The offices are organized around a central space for
support staff and filing. The space was designed to feel open and
comfortable with a barrel vaulted ceiling, indirect and direct lighting,
calming colors, and natural wood trim. Old radiators were covered
with custom radiator covers.
Offices for the professional staff ring the periphery
of the floor. We kept ceilings as high as possible to take advantage
of existing high windows, which bring natural light into the interior
space when office doors are open.
